From Our Pasture to Your Plate: How We Raise Healthy Animals

At Soggy Meadows Farm, every package of meat tells a story. It's a story of open fields, clean air, responsible farming, and respect for the animals we raise. We believe that healthy animals make for nutritious food and that how an animal is raised has everything to do with how it tastes and nourishes your family.

We don’t believe in shortcuts. Instead, we follow the natural ways of the land and raise our animals the way nature intended on pasture, with care, and without stress. Here’s a closer look at how we raise healthy animals from start to finish and why it makes all the difference.

Life on Pasture: The Foundation of Health

Our animals live outside year-round, and they are free to move, forage, and express their natural behaviors. Whether chickens scratching, or cows grazing, every animal at Soggy Meadows Farm, plays a role in keeping the land and themselves healthy.

This isn’t just better for the animals. It’s better for the earth, too. By rotating our animals across fields, we:

  • Prevent overgrazing
  • Rebuild soil fertility
  • Naturally, fertilize the land
  • Support healthy grass growth

It’s a full-circle system where animals and pasture support each other and the result is clean, nutrient-rich food.

What They Eat (and Don’t Eat)

We often get asked: “What do your animals eat?” The answer is simple which is the good stuff.

Our cows eat grass and forage while our chickens feast on bugs, grasses, and supplemental feed. What they don’t eat is just as important: no antibiotics, no synthetic hormones, no fillers, and no mystery feed.

Since they live on healthy pastures and they have access to diverse, natural diets, our animals don’t need constant medications to stay healthy. A clean environment, good nutrition, and low-stress living do the job naturally.

No Shortcuts, No Compromises

Healthy animals don’t need constant medication. On our farm, we never use hormones, growth enhancers, or routine antibiotics. Instead, we focus on prevention through:

  • Low-stress environments
  • Clean, spacious shelter
  • Fresh, diverse forage
  • Quality supplemental feed (when needed)

We know each animal by sight. That’s the kind of attention you can only give on a small, hands-on farm like ours. If an animal needs extra care, we notice early and we act quickly.

Ethical Animal Husbandry

At Soggy Meadows Farm, animal welfare isn’t a buzzword, it’s a way of life. We don’t confine or crowd our animals. We handle them gently, avoid unnecessary interventions, and monitor them closely for signs of stress or illness.

We believe animals should live as they are designed to be socially, outdoors, and stress-free. That’s not just good for their well-being since it’s essential for meat quality. Stress-free animals produce better texture, better flavor, and more tender cuts.

Clean Processing, Done Right

When it’s time for harvest, we work with small, USDA-inspected processors who share our commitment to cleanliness and humane treatment. The animals are transported with care, and the process is handled as respectfully and efficiently as possible.

We never rush or over-process. The goal is to preserve the natural quality of the meat being tender, nutrient-rich, and full of flavor, just like it was on the farm.

Each cut is carefully packaged and frozen for freshness, so when it reaches your table, it’s as close to farm-fresh as you can get.
